Let’s change the world this holiday season

G Adventures

The holidays are about sharing our gifts, our time, and our love with family and friends. Sharing has always been integral to G Adventures — our small group tours are founded on the belief that the world is a better place when we all share more of ourselves. That's why, since 2003, we've worked with our non-profit partner, Planeterra, to form meaningful connections between travellers and locals that create positive impacts in the communities we visit. With your support we've helped social enterprises in 41 countries around the world tap into the tourism marketplace, helping to change the lives of tens of thousands of people.

I saw this impact first-hand when I visited some of our G for Good projects in Peru this past April. It reminded me not only of the life-changing power of travel, but of the ripple effect those changes can have. The Parwa Restaurant in Peru's Sacred Valley opened its doors in 2013 with support from G Adventures and Planeterra. Today, this community-owned business is thriving as a cornerstone stop on many of our tours in the region. Thanks in part to travellers like you, they've been able to reinvest profits into several community projects including water catchment tanks for local families, an organic garden, and a reforestation program. Their operation has sparked several other microenterprises including Sipas Warmi, a co-op of 25 local women who produce herbal tea served at the restaurant. Looking ahead, Parwa plans to share some of their profits with Planeterra to reinvest in other projects around the world.

You can start a ripple of your own by supporting Planeterra. Throughout the year, G Adventures matches donations to Planeterra dollar for dollar. To celebrate the holiday season, we're giving $3 for every $1 donated by our travellers during the month of December. That means a generous gift of $25 gives Planeterra $100 to create more opportunities through travel. As always, 100% of your donation goes directly to supporting life-changing social enterprises across the globe.

You have the power to change the world — for the better. Our world deserves more of that. Our world deserves more you.

Insight: Middle East travel slows

Research undertaken by ForwardKeys, which analyses over 17 million flight booking transactions a day, reveals anaemic travel growth in the Middle East during the first ten months of the year. International arrivals grew just 1% in the period January 18th– October 18th, compared with the equivalent period last year. The news emerged from the annual Middle East & Africa Duty Free Association (MEADFA) conference taking place in Beirut.

The decidedly uninspiring growth was caused mostly by a slowdown in travel to Saudi Arabia and the ongoing blockade of Qatari airspace by its neighbours. Arrivals from the Americas, Asia Pacific and Europe grew by 5.6%, 3.0% and 2.6% respectively but they fell 2.5% from Africa and the Middle East.

Within the Middle East, the UAE is the most important destination by far, attracting nearly half of all air traffic. It was up 2% but the next two most important destinations, Saudi Arabia and Qatar were down 2% and 7% respectively.

Looking at the blockade of Qatar in more detail reveals that the country has suffered particularly badly from a 34.8% drop in arrivals from other Middle Eastern countries, but it has made up for this to some extent with an 8% growth in arrivals from the rest of the world.

Dubai, the world's busiest airport has continued to grow its share of the 'transfer' market, to the detriment of Abu Dhabi as well as Qatar, and it has been successful in continuing to attract visitors who stay overnight in the destination too. The airport which competes with Dubai most successfully is Istanbul. By visitor arrivals, it is around two thirds the size of Dubai but it has seen a 31% surge in visitors staying overnight, as concerns about security, dating back to an attack on the airport in 2016, have receded.

Looking in to the future, bookings for the Middle East in the next two months (18thNov – 10thJan) are 2.4% behind where they were at the same point last year. The cause of this slowdown is bookings from Asia Pacific, which are 11.1% behind where they were at the equivalent point last year. By contrast, forward bookings from the Americas, Europe and Africa & the Middle East are all ahead, by 3.1%, 1.0% and 4.3% respectively.

The Asia Pacific setback is due particularly to Pakistan, from where bookings are 35.4% behind. Bookings from Australia are 19.1% behind and from Indonesia, 11.8% behind.

From mid-April to the end of May next year, Dubai will close one of its runways for upgrade work. This has prompted airlines to cut their seat capacity by 22% during the period. By contrast airlines are planning to increase capacity to Doha and Istanbul but decrease it to Abu Dhabi.

Olivier Jager, CEO, ForwardKeys, concluded: "The most striking feature of travel to the Middle East is the blue-chip nature of Dubai as a hub airport. It is the largest airport in the region by a long way and, despite the slowdown, it just keeps on growing."

LG SIGNATURE products launched

Joined by Premium Dryer and Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator in LG SIGNATURE's First Expansion Since 2016 Launch

LG Electronics (LG) will unveil an expanded LG SIGNATURE ultra-premium product lineup at IFA 2018 in Berlin, highlighted by a new wine cellar, dryer and bottom-freezer refrigerator.

The concept, The Art of Essence, was the inspiration behind the philosophy of the LG SIGNATURE brand, which launched in 2016. LG SIGNATURE products were stripped of all features that detracted from the brand's spirit, resulting in the streamlined look that exemplifies products of the finest quality that deliver a sense of exclusivity to its owners.

The exclusive LG SIGNATURE wine cellar is capable of storing 65 bottles within its sleek metal frame and features numerous innovative technologies such as Multi Temperature Control which creates the ideal storage conditions for different types of wine. The drawer refrigerator in the wine cellar with Automatic Lift allows for easy access to the wine inside with the press of a button. Use voice recognition to open the door or turn on the interior light to see what's inside through the darkened glass, saving energy and avoiding unnecessary exposure to sunlight.

A high-end clothes dryer will be joining LG SIGNATURE for the first time this year. The 10kg dryer can detect the amount of laundry inside the drum and adjust setting to match, with no input from the user. A rapid drying feature is complemented by the advanced Condenser Automatic Cleansing System which uses streaming water to clear away lint build up, allowing the dryer to operate consistently at peak efficiency.

The new LG SIGNATURE bottom-freezer refrigerator boasts an array of advanced features including Automatic Lift to raise the drawer to eye level for easier access to the contents. The improved Auto Door Open feature senses when a person approaches and automatically opens the door twice as wide as before, a real convenience when one's arms are full of groceries.

To highlight the wine cellar's aesthetics and advanced technology, LG SIGNATURE partnered with James Suckling, a prominent figure in the international wine community whose reviews are widely read and respected. Mr. Suckling will host several wine tasting sessions for VIP guests at the LG SIGNATURE booth in Messe Berlin on August 30 and 31, highlighting the wine cellar's ability to preserve or improve a wine's flavor. French winery Lou Dumont will also be on hand to serve visitors a sampling of its best vintage.

"Combining beautiful design with the latest technologies while staying true to a product's essence is what LG SIGNATURE is all about," said Song Dae-hyun, president of LG's Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. "Expanding our LG SIGNATURE collection to seven products allows even more consumers to experience the joy of owning a home appliance that resembles a work of art."

South Australian Government creates work experience opportunities for international students

The Marshall Government deploys experiential learning technology Practera, by Australian edtech startup Intersective, driving real-world learning

The South Australian Marshall Government has partnered with Australian education technology startup Intersective to launch and pilot a new program to give international students at SA universities work experience opportunities in local businesses, aimed at strengthening their cultural immersion and language skills.

143 international students from the University of Adelaide, Flinders University, UniSA and Torrens University undertook three-week projects for business, local government and not-for-profit organisations as part of the Adelaide Engage Work Experience Network (AEWEN).

Students, mentors and educators were supported through an Adelaide Engage app, which was built on Intersective's Practera, an experiential learning technology platform.

South Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment David Ridgway said the opportunity to work on real-world business problems while studying would provide a unique hands-on experience in the South Australian business environment.

"Students will be guided throughout by a range of experienced mentors and supported by the Practera app to learn project management and team building skills. Participation in Adelaide Engage will enhance their job opportunities here and in their home country," he said.

"Businesses including SA Water, Bupa, Trajan Medical & Scientific, Chooks SA, Barossa Fine Foods, and Bank SA can tap into the wealth of bilingual, regional and cultural nous students have to help businesses grow."

Jinhong Park, a Korean student from Adelaide University, said the opportunity to get real-world experience was massive. "It was a great experience to engage in a real business project that cannot easily be done by online research. I enjoyed the opportunity to use the skills and knowledge that I am learning at Adelaide University."

Peiyan Li, from Flinders University, agreed. "I met people from different backgrounds and we all learned from each other. In the real world, it is essential to work as a team and be an active team player.

"AEWEN provides a really great opportunity for international students to engage with real work experience. During the three weeks, our members and I worked hard and contributed and facilitated discussions on a variety of ideas. I really enjoyed

this program and highly recommend to my peers."

Sebastian Pabon, a student from Torrens University, said the experience gave him confidence in his future.

"Being the team leader for this project has given me very first insight into how to be a project manager," he said.

"Dealing with life, university, project, stakeholders, team members, etc, is certainly stressful. However, learning about myself and my strengths, how I managed the team and the outcome we delivered, makes me believe that I have qualities and aptitudes as a project manager."

Minister Ridgway spoke further about the broader context for the initiative.

"To support the international education sector the State Government has increased funding to StudyAdelaide to $2.5 million each year so it can continue to promote our state and encourage more students like yourselves, to live and learn in our state," he said.

"We are also looking to double the international student ambassador campaign and strengthen interaction with overseas education agents to promote our interests overseas.

"We want to be able to further our educational ties, through partnerships with other international educational institutes."

Recent ABS data revealing international student spending in South Australia reached an all-time high of $1.54 billion in 2017, up 9.4 percent from the previous year.

Minister Ridgway said international education is South Australia's largest service export, and our second largest export overall after wine.

"We are committed to further growing this crucial economic sector," he said.

"It's estimated that each international student enrolment contributes an average of $29,600 to the local economy and every four enrolments support one full-time equivalent job in South Australia.

"International students also contribute to city vibrancy, and our government is increasing its work with South Australian companies to support individual business export growth to markets such as China."

Intersective co-founder and co-CEO Beau Leese said his company was delighted to supporting the next wave of real-world learning in South Australia.

"The Adelaide Engage Work Experience Network is a perfect example of the kind of program we built our Practera platform to support – universities, students, mentors and businesses collaborating systematically in experiential learning.

"These types of programs are key for people and organisations to build real-world skills for the jobs of the future – but delivering them sustainably at large scale is hard. Practera helps program managers deliver better outcomes by keeping learners, mentors and educators engaged and aligned, and providing rich data analytics for quality management.

"We're excited to work with forward-thinking partners like the South Australian Government to enable this amazing program."

WHITE STREET MARKET

WHITE MAN & WOMAN, with WHITE STREET MARKET, has confirmed the efficacy of the new streetwear and sportswear format, open to both buyers and end-users. With a calendar of over 20 happenings, including workshops, shows, showcases and music events, WHITE STREET MARKET, at its first edition, has been able to involve Milan and the Tortona Fashion District, with over 8.800 visitors in just three days (from June 16th to June 18th), including buyers, journalists and end-users, as the social media numbers have also shown: the newly- born Instagram of WHITE STREET MARKET (@white_streetmarket) has reached 3.221 followers in few days, with 200.000 impressions on its profile, which has been searched by 50.000 accounts in two days. If, on the one hand, the innovation with the launch of the new streetwear festival has turned out to be very successful, on the other hand, the impasse on Milan’s men’s fashion week has not been overcome.

So Massimiliano Bizzi, founder of WHITE: “WHITE STREET MARKET has rewarded us all, our courage and our great job in developing a formula capable of innovating our sector and making it more contemporary. At its first edition, the new format has already reached over 8.800 visitors, and it will for sure be part of our future only for the men’s editions. The difficulties on the dates of the men’s section, as regards the buyers’ turnout in Milan during the men’s fashion week, had already been highlighted. Probably this is what prompted us to get to work and promptly design something utterly new, a new formula involving both the B2B and the B2C”.

On the same page is Cristina Tajani, Councillor for Fashion, Design and Productive Activities of the Municipality of Milan, who stated: “With WHITE we have immediately shared a viewpoint: the need to rethink the menswear formula, so as to make the most of the close connection with the city and those who inhabit it. The promptness and WHITE’s reaction time have allowed us to introduce an extraordinary change at Ex Ansaldo, which has been revitalized also during the month of June”.

On the one hand, the tradeshow has relied on the quality of the research and the internationality of the proposals at Tortona 27 Superstudio Più, with international brands like Matthew Miller (Special Guest), Abasi Rosborough (Special Designer), Sagittaire A (Special Project), AVAVAV, WRAD and IH NOM UH NIT, which with its show, has captivated press and buyers alike. Not to mention the presence of important showrooms like Vald Agency, Six London, Baltimora Studio and also Tomorrow London Ltd for the project Athleisure: AHEAD - The Function Room.

An edition that has fully relied on quality thanks to the presence of top international retailers like Barney’s (Japan), Beams, Bloomingdale’s, which has appreciated the take on sustainability, Harvey Nichols, Isetan, Le Bon Marchè, LN-CC, United Arrows, Takashimaya, Printemps, to mention just a few.

Top 10 Travel Experiences

TOP 10 UNFORGETTABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCES.

Luxury travel operator has established a well-deserved reputation for creating inspirational travel experiences in some of the most remote, exclusive and exotic destinations on Earth.

"Staying ahead of the game is something we really pride ourselves on", says Michael McCall. "Our local guides are constantly on the look-out for new activities and unique experiences for our guests."

Michael has selected ten of Sanctuary Retreats' favourites experiences (in no particular order). Read on for your next travel inspiration.

1. Exploring the Zambezi by canoe at Sussi & Chuma, Zambia

Take a walk on the wild side and track wildlife on foot. According to Michael, this is an experience of a lifetime. Guests can explore channels and rapids on the mighty Zambezi River on inflatable canoes accompanied by professional guides, along with close encounters with some of Africa's 'big five' game to boot.

2. Mokoro Excursion at Sanctuary Baines' Camp, Botswana

In Botswana's Okavango Delta, one of the best ways to see the wildlife is from one of the locally made dugout canoes, known as mokoros. At Sanctuary Baines Camp, guests can take a leisurely ride in one of these traditional vessels around the waterways and lagoons that make up the Delta, looking for crocodiles and hippo, while enjoying a remarkable view of the plains game from a very different perspective. This gentle and informative mode of safari is unique to the river Bushmen, comprising three different tribes who made the Delta their home. For the less intrepid, the camp also has motorised speedboats that can be used when the rivers are in flood.

3. Cooking at Sanctuary Swala, Tanzania

According to Michael one of the most popular activities at Sanctuary Swala Camp is its Chef Experience. "We find that our guests have never done anything quite like this before and really enjoy themselves trying out local delicacies. Our chef shows them how to make dishes from local ingredients like maize, beans and spinach, using a traditional Jika senefu stove. And once the meal is ready, one of our staff will also instructs them how to eat dishes – local style".

4. Visit Tujia boatmen in China on The Yangzi Explorer

On China's mighty Yangtze River guests aboard the Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer can visit the Shennong Stream on one of the many shore excursions on offer. Crystalline waters, verdant forests and stunning riverine gorges provide an incredible backdrop for an experience aboard local sampans (wooden long-boats) rowed by expert Tujia boatmen. According to Michael guests are also fascinated to see the Tujia boatmen still wearing traditional handmade sandals to work on the boats.

5. Sin Kyun village visit in Myanmar

Several years ago, Sanctuary Retreats began sponsoring Sin Kyun, a small remote village just north of Mandalay. With a population of just under 1,000 inhabitants, it specialises in farming and hat making. Guests aboard the Sanctuary Ananda can visit the village and witness first-hand a traditional way of life, little altered for centuries, in an unspoilt location seldom viewed by outsiders. Following the Village Chief's request, Sanctuary Retreats has donated the much-needed funds for a library and a house for an English teacher.

6. Batwa tribe experience at Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Lodge, Uganda

In the Bwindi Impenetrable Forrest, guests have a unique opportunity to meet the local Batwa tribe and learn about their way of life, including a traditional hunting and gathering demonstration, a musical performance and a visit by the local 'goddess'. Says Michael, "The Batwa tribe are the oldest inhabitants of the Great Lakes region of Central Africa and speak largely the same language as the Hutu and Tutsi groups of Rwanda. Like most of the tribes in Africa, they have moved from place to place and are now found mainly in Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and eastern portions of the DRC."

http://www.sanctuaryretreats.com/uganda-camps-gorilla-forest-activities

7. Sail the Nile on a traditional Felucca, Egypt

Egypt's rich history has created a tapestry of cultural and archaeological treasures unmatched anywhere – so much so that the country is home to an estimated one third of the world's antiquities. According to Michael, a cruise down the mighty Nile offers up one of the best ways to explore these, with Sanctuary Retreats offering up four luxurious ships to choose from – Sanctuary Sun Boat III, Sanctuary Sun Boat IV, Sanctuary Nile Adventurer or Sanctuary Zein Nile Chateau. But for truly authentic experience, he recommends taking a ride on a felucca, a typical Egyptian sail boat, around Elephantine Island, Lord Kitchener's Botanical Gardens, and the Agha Khan Mausoleum for a very different perspective of one of the world's great waterways.

http://www.sanctuaryretreats.com/egypt-holidays

8. Bathe under the stars at Sanctuary Baines' Camp, Botswana

For one of the most romantic experiences, Michael reckons it's hard to go past a star-lit bath at Sanctuary Baines' Camp in Botswana. "This is the ultimate in safari chic. The camp is built on raised platforms high above the Boro River in amidst a grove of trees bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. The private star bath allows you to enjoy an open-air bubble bath under the stars, as you soak in style. Truly unforgettable."

http://www.sanctuaryretreats.com/botswana-camps-baines-accommodation

9. Star gazing in Serengeti at Sanctuary Kusini, Tanzania

Most visitors come to Africa looking for the wildlife and the beauty, yet one of the most spectacular sights of all is hardly ever mentioned – the African night sky, offering some of the best star gazing in the world. One of Michael's favourite past times? Settling into luxurious blankets and cushions around the campfire at Sanctuary Kusini exploring the beauty of an African night sky.

http://www.sanctuaryretreats.com/tanzania-camps-kusini-activities

10. Nature walk at Sanctuary Olonana, Kenya

Last on Michael's list is a walk with the camp naturalist at Sanctuary Olonana and a chance to learn about plants, trees and insects and their use in the daily lives of the Maasai tribe. He'll also share his intimate knowledge about the surrounding environment and how many of the trees and plants can be used for medicinal purposes. Guests are also encouraged to plant a tree, leaving a positive mark in Africa.

Medical hub creates healthy business for Australian convention centre

The fourth major building in the Adelaide BioMed City precinct – The University of South Australia's Centre for Cancer Biology – is set to open this month while the $240 million SAHMRI 2 building, featuring the Southern Hemisphere's first Proton Therapy Unit, is expected to open in 2020.

Their presence in the northwest corner of the Adelaide CBD follows the opening of the eye-catching South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), pictured below, in late 2013 and the completion of the new Royal Adelaide Hospital and University of Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences building in 2017.

The transformation of the former rail yards on North Terrace has coincided with the $397 million redevelopment of the neighbouring Adelaide Convention Centre, which was completed in August 2017.

The centre became Australia's first convention centre when it opened in 1987. The recent redevelopment has significantly increased its size, allowing it to bid for major conferences it previously couldn't accommodate.

The centrepiece of the Adelaide Convention Centre revamp is a state-of-the-art 3000sq m Plenary Hall. With a 3500-seat capacity, the hall can be divided into more than ...

SWISS raises its first-quarter Adjusted EBIT to CHF 106 million

Quarterly financial results

SWISS raises its first-quarter Adjusted EBIT to CHF 106 million

SWISS generated total income from operating activities of CHF 1.18 billion in the first three months of 2018, an eight-per-cent increase on the prior-year period (Q1 2017: CHF 1.09 billion). The additional capacities created by the current fleet renewal were successfully sold on both the passenger and the cargo front. In addition to efficiency gains deriving from the fleet renewal programme, earnings for the period were also boosted by non-recurring items. As a result, SWISS improved its adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (Adjusted EBIT) for the first-quarter period from CHF 35 million to CHF 106 million[1].

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) delivered a strong business performance in the first quarter of 2018. Total income from operating activities was raised 8 per cent to CHF 1.18 billion (Q1 2017: CHF 1.09 billion). The additional capacities provided by the current fleet renewal were successfully marketed and sold. Results for the period were also boosted by various non-recurring items deriving mainly from project deferrals. The revenue growth, which was driven by strong sales efforts, also helped raise earnings for the period. As a result, first-quarter Adjusted EBIT was improved 200 per cent to CHF 106 million (Q1 2017: CHF 35 million)1.

Investments in modernization reaping rewards

SWISS put two further Boeing 777-300ERs into long-haul service and two further Bombardier CS300s onto its short-haul network during the 2018 first-quarter period. The new aircraft types help effect a substantial improvement in the company's cost structures, particularly through their superior profitability credentials.

SWISS was also able to sell the extra capacity offered by these larger aircraft in its various markets. The 3.7 million passengers who were transported in the first three months of 2018 represent a 1.9-per-cent increase on the prior-year period. Total traffic volume for the period, measured in revenue passenger-kilometres, was up 3.0 per cent. In addition to the favourable passenger traffic trends, the airfreight business of Swiss WorldCargo also showed highly positive developments in both price and volume terms.

"We are delighted to have had such a successful first quarter," says CEO Thomas Klühr. "But the rising price of fuel will be felt increasingly, and will have a corresponding impact on our earnings, as the year progresses. So it's all the more vital that we continue to work consistently to meet our customers' wishes even better by offering them products that are tailored as closely as possible to their specific air travel needs."

Outlook

SWISS will continue to benefit from efficiency gains deriving from its current fleet renewal. But the countertrends – particularly intensified competition and the added cost burden of an ever-rising oil price – are likely to make their presence increasingly felt. These adverse trends will also impact even more as the year progresses and the benefits of current fuel hedges increasingly expire.

Continuous further development of the travel experience

2018 will remain dominated at SWISS by further enhancements to its customers' travel experience. The second quarter will also see the opening of the modernized Business and Senator Lounges in Zurich Airport's Terminal A.

SWISS will also be launching 'SWISS Saveurs', its new inflight foodservice concept for European routes from Geneva. From the end of May onwards, passengers on the flights concerned will be able to tailor their inflight food and drink to their own wishes and needs. In addition to a continuing basic product, travellers will be able to purchase quality local items made by the Geneva branch of Swiss retailer Globus. The new SWISS Saveurs programme has been developed in response to the growing demand among customers for a personalized air travel experience.

1) SWISS replaced EBIT with Adjusted EBIT as its prime financial indicator in its reporting from the beginning of 2018. An EBIT of CHF 37 million was previously reported for the first quarter of 2017.

PETRONAS launches premium passenger car motor oil in Australia

PETRONAS LAUNCHES PREMIUM PASSENGER CAR MOTOR OIL IN AUSTRALIA

PETRONAS Syntium with °CoolTech™ Developed to Fight Excessive Engine Heat

PETRONAS Lubricants International (PLI) today launched their flagship Passenger Car Motor Oil Lubricant, PETRONAS Syntium with °CoolTech™, in Australia. PETRONAS Syntium with °CoolTech™ lubricant is uniquely formulated to fight excessive engine heat, keep smooth oil flow and maintain optimum engine performance for a trouble-free drive.

The engine oil is expertly engineered with strong oil chains to effectively absorb and transfer excessive engine heat caused by modern driving conditions such as traffic congestion, driving up steep inclines and continuous acceleration on highways. It was developed & tested at the PETRONAS state-of-art laboratories in Turin, Italy to ensure it performs well as the first line of defense against excessive engine heat.

The launch, which marks PETRONAS Syntium's debut into the Australian market, was attended by the Vice President of Downstream Marketing, PETRONAS, Dato Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohd Tahir and PETRONAS Lubricants International Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Giuseppe D'Arrigo, who unveiled the new lubricant alongside four-time Formula One World Champion and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport driver, Lewis Hamilton.

"PETRONAS takes great pride in redefining automotive fluid technology with our new product. PETRONAS Syntium with °CoolTech™ is not only another breakthrough. It is the trusted lubricant brand for millions of drivers in 80 markets globally. Our strong footing in these markets provides us with the right foundation to capture new growth opportunities to seal our position as one of the World's Top Lubricant Companies in the coming years," said PETRONAS Vice President of Downstream Marketing, Dato' Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohd Tahir.

PETRONAS, in its efforts to drive innovation of unique and customised fluid and lubricants based on the needs of their partners, recently launched their USD 60 Million, state of the art Global Research and Technology Centre in Turin, Italy. The new facility will house PETRONAS' leading technologist and engineers; while serving as the nucleus in PETRONAS' global network of research and technology centres. The Global R&T Centre is expected to enhance PETRONAS' ongoing work with automotive OEMs in co-designing engines and their fluids for markets worldwide.

PETRONAS Lubricants International began their Australian operations back in 2000, with partnerships with CNH Industrial and Iveco. In 2016, PETRONAS began progressively offering its high performance product portfolio to the Australian automotive industry, a highly lucrative market with strong potential for growth.

"Since opening our Australian office in 2016, we've seen increasing demand for our high quality synthetic motor oils by all user groups. This launch officially provides Australian drivers with access to a premium motor oil that delivers optimum driving performance and reliability," said Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PETRONAS Lubricants International (PLI), Giuseppe D'Arrigo.

PETRONAS Syntium with oCoolTech™ is proven to outperform conventional oil by up to +63% better in heat transfer capacity to better handle escalating heat inside the engine and up to +51% more efficient than conventional oil in dissipating damaging excessive engine heat. These benefits help to keep engine temperature running close to normal engine operating temperature, even under severe driving conditions.

"PETRONAS Syntium with °CoolTech™ is the product of our commitment to technology and collaboration with the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS Motorsport in top tier racing. Through the application of our Fluid Technology Solutions™ approach, the same on-track engineering and expertise are brought into the development of products for the benefit of users on the road," added D'Arrigo.

At the Geneva International Motorshow in early March, D'Arrigo pledged PLI's commitment to invest in technology, sharing their aspiration to be the world's leading Fluid Technology Solutions™ partner committed towards sustainability and business growth. Championing CO2 emissions reduction through their unique approach to technology and co-engineering came up top in their agenda. Australian startup Cyclevision launches world’s first Dual Camera Cycling Helmet on Kickstarter

A world-first Dual Camera Cycling Helmet, launching today on Kickstarter, is designed to make cycling safer while recording the rider's adventures (and misadventures). Invented by cyclists, for cyclists, Cyclevision EDGE is the world's first bicycle helmet to incorporate in-built front and rear cameras.

Inventor Rob Asker, a helicopter engineer for 38 years, and his medical technologist wife Suzanne were motivated to develop Cyclevision EDGE by the acute vulnerability of road cyclists. An average of 35 cyclists are killed each year on Australian roads, and thousands more sustain serious injuries, 85% as a result of collisions with motor vehicles.

Mr Asker himself has been the victim of not one, but two hit-and-run incidents.

"Just two weeks ago there was a court report in the Australian media about an elderly motorist who has denied dangerous driving -- he was accused of killing a cyclist after hitting her at a roundabout, dragging her body along the road and then driving off to go to the library," Mr Asker said.  "These kinds of issues have led organisations like Bicycle Queensland to urge cyclists to use bike mounted cameras."

The drawback, Mr Asker said, is that other cameras have to be removed from the bicycle frame when the cyclist leaves the bike unattended and then refitted, whereas the Cyclevision EDGE helmet simply goes with riders wherever they go.

At the touch of a button, the Cyclevision EDGE helmet records Full HD footage simultaneously from both cameras onto twin 32GB of internal memory. The free App and built-in Wi-Fi lets you stream live vision from the rear (or front) cameras to a mobile device mounted on the handlebars to create an electronic rear-view camera.

"We are passionate about rider safety and we look forward to delivering the Cyclevision EDGE helmet to the world's cycling community, not only to make road cycling safer, but as a platform to record their commuting and recreational cycling experiences," Mr Asker said.

"The fact it is App-based means we can add new features as we progress simply by updating the software."

The Queensland Government has given strong backing to this project with a substantial financial grant from the Advance Queensland Ignite Ideas fund, and the state's Minister for Innovation and Tourism Industry Development and Minister for the Commonwealth Games, Hon. Kate Jones MP, has become an enthusiastic supporter of this Queensland invention.

When given a demonstration of a working pre-production prototype this week, she acknowledged the Cyclevision EDGE helmet as a fine example of Queenslanders developing world-leading technological products, with the potential to make cycling safer for millions of cyclists around the world.

Bicycle Queensland and CycleLaw are two organisations that have also endorsed the Cyclevision EDGE helmet.

Bicycle Queensland's CEO, Anne Savage, congratulated Cyclevision for the innovation:

"This helmet is a game-changer," Ms Savage said. "Professional and amateur riders will be able to ride safely and capture their trips on camera for other riders and the community to enjoy, showcasing all that cycling has to offer.

"High quality camera footage from a helmet has not been viable, until now. We welcome this innovation from Cyclevision and are proud to see a world-leading product like this one come out of Queensland."

Gorilla Forest Camp Uganda

For a truly sublime wilderness escape, it is hard to surpass Uganda, the undiscovered pearl of Africa. A lush landscape of deep lakes, glacial alpine mountains, wide-open savannah and dense rainforests, the country boasts wildlife not found anywhere else, making a safari here an unforgettable one.

But Uganda is perhaps best known for its concentration of primates, including its most celebrated residents – half the world's remaining mountain gorilla population. And one of the best places to see them is Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp located in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the country's southwest.

Featuring eight private luxury tents tucked away on a on a flat ridge deep within the heart of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is ecologically respectful, contemporary yet classic in style, and blends in sensitively with the dramatic African mountain landscape. It's also uniquely situated right inside the national park, where you are only minutes away from the start of your gorilla trekking adventure.

2018 has seen the recent re-launch of this extraordinary escape by boutique luxury travel operator Sanctuary Retreats, following the completion of an extensive refurbishment program. Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp's unique interpretation of camp living offers unrivalled seclusion and space in an ancient rainforest located in one of Africa's most remote areas.

Each comfortable canvas space is dressed with indigenous prints and furniture made from natural materials. Beds are draped in neutral-toned linens, with local artefacts artfully displayed both inside and out each tent. Tents also boast spacious stonewall bathrooms and a freestanding baths for a relaxing soak after a day's trekking. Or for guests looking for a truly indulgent experience, specialist therapist, Precious delivers by specialist therapist, Precious, a range of treatments at the Camp Spa including herbal massages, hydrating facials and foot massages.

The Camp's small size ensures it retains an intimate, exclusive feel, enabling guests to experience Africa's magic with the lightest of footprints, while enjoying practically every mod con. Even better, its unique location means the Camp is frequently visited by gorilla families, making it the perfect base for a once in a lifetime encounter with Uganda's endangered mountain gorillas.

If you're contemplating ticking a gorilla trek off your bucket list, take advantage of Sanctuary Retreats' great-value extended stay offer.

Dubai, UAE, 16 January 2017 – Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is to say a fond farewell to one of its longest standing executive team members, Andreas Mattmüller.
