Highly-skilled hotelier to lead Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts' first Bangladesh property, which will welcome guests later this year
Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has appointed Subroto Banerjee as the General Manager of Mövenpick Hotel Sylhet, a newly built upscale property in Bangladesh.
With more than three decades of hospitality industry experience, Subroto has worked for some of the industry's leading brands. He has been part of the Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts team in General Manager roles since 2014.
He now brings his extensive industry expertise and leadership skills to Mövenpick Hotel Sylhet, the company's inaugural property in Bangladesh, which is scheduled to open this year.
"We have been extremely impressed with Subroto since he joined Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts four years ago. He is a talented and respected professional who has improved the performance of all the Mövenpick properties he has managed," commented Mark Willis, President - Asia, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts.
"I can think of no better person to lead Mövenpick Hotel Sylhet as we prepare for the official opening of our first property in Bangladesh. With more exciting hotel projects in our Bangladeshi pipeline, we foresee a bright future for Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts in this dynamic country," Mark added.
Subroto started his hospitality career working for major hotel brands in India including Oberoi, Sheraton and Hyatt Regency. As a food and beverage specialist, he later moved to Oman to manage the main restaurant at the former InterContinental Muscat, one of the Middle East's leading properties.
Upon returning to India, Subroto took on senior management roles for a series of prestigious hospitality projects, eventually becoming General Manager of Starwood's Aloft Bengaluru Whitefield hotel in 2012. He then joined Mövenpick in 2014, serving as General Manager of hotels in India and Saudi Arabia, prior to taking over the pre-opening team at Mövenpick Hotel Sylhet in 2018.
The new hotel, which is just a few minutes from Sylhet Osmani International Airport, will feature an all-day dining restaurant, as well as a speciality bistro and lounge. Guests will be able to relax in the rooftop infinity swimming pool and indulge in signature treatments at the spa. A fitness centre, tennis court and bowling alley complement the adjacent shopping area, which covers 3,849 sqm of retail space. With a well-equipped business centre and the city's largest meeting rooms, the hotel will also appeal to the growing number of business travellers to the city.
"I am delighted to take on the role of General Manager at Mövenpick Hotel Sylhet, which will bring new standards of international hospitality to this up-and-coming city," Subroto commented.
"I look forward to working with the team as we prepare for the hotel's official opening later this year."
